Two Years in the Life

I arrived in Vancouver exactly two years ago yesterday, which is a significant amount of time. It's said that you should visit a city for either two days or two years - two days to whiz around the best bits, or two years to really soak it all up. I chose the longer option and I've had fun, although it must be said that I enjoyed my time in London more. I've certainly experienced plenty of stuff that you can't do in London or Australia, which is what the travel thing is all aboot. Snowboarding, hockey, tuuks, poutine, loonies, toonies, curling, Tim Hortons and much more - it's been a fine time, but it's time to start thinking about toddling back to Australia.

My timeframe is March or April next year, but as moving means packing up my Canadian life, selling most of it and transporting the remainder across the world to another country, I probably should start getting my ducks in a row. Or at least, shopping for ammo to shoot the ducks when I have them all lined up. I'm planning on taking the slow boat home, and visiting a few friends in different locations around the world. I'm considering another London run, and Bangkok, Osaka and Amsterdam are also on the cards, as well as a wild idea to try and hit Turkey for Soulclipse, another solar eclipse festival like the one I went to back in Australia in 2002. Sunny downtown Fallujah is not being considered at this time.

As for what's planned for when I finally arrive back in Australia, I'm thinking Sydney. It's big, I have friends there, and it has a Super 14 rugby team. I should be able to settle down and get a decent job, and maybe even buy an apartment, thus going quickly into massive debt. Living all this time in London and now Vancouver away from hearth, home and my collection of Steven Brust books has become more than a little stale, so I think it's time to settle down for a bit. I may even buy a cat.
