Praying for Rain
We had a terrific start to the snow season here in Vancouver, with snow on the ground in the city before the end of November. Unfortunately, we've been inundated by dry, sunny days since then, with the occasional foggy evening to break up the boredom. Although it's relatively pleasant around the city, it's awful for snowboarding, which needs a decent covering of soft snow to be good. Trying to get around on week-old hard packed runs with patches of ice is like sliding on greased concrete, and falling over feels like being kicked in the ass by a menhir.
At this rate, this season is going to end up just as crappy as last season, which was pretty tragic. Vancouver had just won the rights to host the 2010 Winter Olympics, and such a bad snow season had everyone losing their minds. Well, as much as the polite Canadians lose their minds. I think someone might have said "Oh, that's not that great, eh?". Two poor seasons in a row doesn't bode well at all for the 2010 event, and even more importantly, it's making my final snow season in Canada pretty shabby. Damn you, global warming.
