Beryllium
March 20, 2007
Scott has been going on about the super swanky Linux window manager system Beryl for a while now, and Ars Technica has a preview of it that shows off a fair chunk of its glossy, animated, wobbly, transparent, wrapped-around-a-cube goodness. Beryl is Linux only, which is a bit of a dealbreaker for most people, but if you've got an older machine with a modicum of 3D-accelerated hardware lying around, Beryl can make it look a whole lot sexier. There are a few good Beryl vids on YouTube, but I like the one Scott pointed me at originally that gives a general tour, and another shorter one that shows a very cool fire effect.
