I had planned on building a desktop PC for my dad before I fled the country, but upon reflection, I changed my mind and ordered him a Dell. Building a machine from components would've resulted in a better system for his money, but if anything had gone wrong, there would've been no-one for him to call (apart from me, and I'd be on the other side of the world, up to my armpits in snow and bears). I even managed to get a pretty decent deal too: Celeron 2.4Ghz, 512MB of RAM, 40GB drive and even a CD burner for around $1050 all up. Of course, it's highly unlikely that my Dad will ever make serious use of the burner, but it's kinda cool to have it in there.
