I'm In the Library
Katie and I have purchased mobile phones, after establishing that Canadians just laugh at you if you offer an email address as a primary means of contact. Since neither of us have a credit history in North America, we got slugged with an additional $200 each as bond for the phones, but that should come back to us if we pay our bills on time. By signing up this month, we scored a free DVD player too, which is pretty useless considering we don't yet have a place to live.
The whole house hunt thing has been okay, although we keep running into further complications in our quest. Shared houses don't like couples, and entire suites (as they call them here) are rarely furnished, so that puts us smack in the middle, with nowhere to live. We did see a cosy little apartment up near Stanley Park, but the place was filled to the brim with old lady stuff we weren't allowed to move. The building was populated by ancient seniors too - the site manager was the oldest human being I had ever see who was still alive. She looked just like Dracula's grandmother, and kept telling us how everyone liked the area because it was good for sleeping. We backed out slowly, and kept looking elsewhere.
