Good Day, Sunshine
Vancouver's daylight savings time kicked in recently, providing us all with an additional hour of sunshine in which to play and frolic. It has made the evenings a little wonky, with the sun still blazing away at 8pm, no doubt causing curtains to fade and cows to withhold their milk all over the province. The change has set the stage for evening picnics down by the beach in the coming months, with girls in bikini tops and short shorts throwing frisbees and legions of dogs not fighting with each other. Very civilized.
I've been getting an unexpected amount of joy watching the world shuffle out of hibernation and come alive with all the vibrant colors of nature. Trees all around the city are losing their skeletal winter look and showing new growth in every conceivable shade of green, with many around our house flaring up with brilliant white and pink blossoms that break off in the wind and flail down the street like snow. The seasons seem to be turning under my very feet, and it's hard not to wear a silly grin at the wonder of it all.
I'm also fairly filled with wonder at my fortnightly paycheque, although I am having a bit of difficulty shaking myself out of stasis mode and remembering how to actually spend money. After all, we could continue to borrow the vaccuum cleaner out of the apartment complex's laundry at 3am whenever our carpet becomes too crunchy to walk on, but it's probably worth it to buy one of our own. I should probably hold off on that diamond-encrusted Ipod with the optional cocaine grinder attachment, though.
